Tiffany Haddish Pleads No Contest Over Thanksgiving's Reckless Driving Arrest

Last year, during the Thanksgiving holiday in Los Angeles, Tiffany Haddish was arrested for reckless driving; she pled not guilty.
According to a statement from the Los Angeles District Attorney’s office, the 44-year-old actress from Girls Trip had two misdemeanor charges dropped after she accepted a plea deal following her arrest in November.

“Wet reckless” is the colloquial name for violations of Vehicle Code sections 23103 and 23103.5, which Haddish admitted to in a no contest plea on Thursday, according to the statement.

As part of a plea bargain, a driving under the influence (DUI) accusation can be reduced to a “wet reckless” charge, which does not result in an immediate suspension of the driver’s license. This is a charge of a misdemeanor.

Alex Spiro, Haddish’s attorney, stated in a statement that was received by TMZ and Rolling Stone, “Ms. Haddish has agreed to a simple vehicle code violation – not driving under the influence, which has been dismissed — and looks forward to this being behind her.”

Summary probation for the actress from “The Haunted Mansion” was set for a year. Along with her community service requirement of 40 hours, she was also ordered to participate in the Victim Impact Program administered by Mothers Against Drunk Driving.
In addition to the usual fines and fees, Haddish is required to complete a driver’s education program (SB1176), attend a HAM (Hospital and Morgue) program.

In addition, she was served with a “Watson” admonition, which is a legal document that individuals with DUIs are required to sign acknowledging the seriousness of the consequences of their acts, which can include harm or even death.
According to a source, Haddish was additionally directed to provide completion documentation to the clerk’s office. There are currently no court appearances scheduled.

Initially, Haddish pled not guilty in late December. The original date of the pretrial hearing was February 14th.
She ran into trouble with the law after her arrest on Thanksgiving weekend, when she was accused of dozing off in her Tesla.

The comedian was arrested and charged with two misdemeanor offenses when the Beverly Hills Police Department discovered her at around 5:45 a.m. local time on November 24. The first count was for driving under the influence of alcohol, and the second was for driving with a blood alcohol content of over.08%.
Haddish had been performing the night before at West Hollywood’s The Laugh Factory for the 43rd annual free community Thanksgiving feast.

Haddish reportedly poked fun at the situation at her performance at the Laugh Factory in Long Beach, California, after her release later that day. She said, “I had prayed to God to send me a man with a job, career, preferably in a uniform, and I answered my prayers,” as heard on a recording obtained by TMZ.

During an interview that was published on November 27th by Entertainment Tonight, Haddish stated that the incident “will never happen again.” She mentioned that the Tesla took care of parking itself once she dozed off.
The actress revealed to the media that she is in “good spirits” after the incident and stated, “I’m going to get some help so I can learn balance and boundaries.”

Peachtree City, Georgia, police detained the Nobody’s Fool actress in January 2022 following an arrest for driving under the influence allegation. According to a court document that was obtained, following Haddish’s detention in California, prosecutors from Georgia sought to amend her bond conditions by asking the court to prevent her from doing drugs and alcohol.
