Despite Rema not captioning the video, both fans and critics are reading it as a hint to the release of a new album after a very long hiatus or as a sign that he is launching his own record label. But the former outweighs the latter.
Amidst the speculations that the Nigerian Afrobeats artist, Rema, is planning to leave his record label, Mavin Records, the artist popularly known as the Rave Lorde, has released a video clip to widen the controversy.
The wordless clip backed with a suspenseful soundtrack was shot at a rooftop. There was a ray of theatrical light, focusing on something, appearing like a logo shaped in the form of a bat. The bat-shaped logo hangs in the air. Then, a figure of a ‘being’ believed to be a man, garbed in a black, long suit jacket stands before the logo, gazing up to communicate a sense of surrender, vision and hope.
17 hours since the release of the clip, fans have kept wondering if Rema is giving a hint into the opening of his record label amid the controversy surrounding his delusional discontinuation of his contract with Mavins. But Rema has been silent, even when the official Instagram handle of Mavin Records commented under the video that he is a “troublemaker.”
Last Month, Rema, sentenced many to speculating that he left Mavin Records. This was so when he erased all of the posts that might have anything to do with the label on his Instagram profile, Unconventional Magazine, recalled.
The action of Rema was also followed by fans’ justifications that Don Jazzy, the founder of Mavin Records, prioritises Ayra Starr over him.
Later, Don Jazzy confirmed the controversy around that leaving the world to believe that Rema had terminated his fifteen-year contract. The Label founder cited feelings of mistreatment, as quoted by Rema, “even though the contract was advantageous to the young artist.”
Despite Rema not captioning the video, both fans and critics are reading it as a hint to the release of a new album after a very long hiatus or as a sign that he is launching his own record label. But the former outweighs the latter.
Although Rema has not formally disclosed the meaning of the video, fans are excited to see what the Rave Lorde will do next.
It would be a brave move toward independence and an opportunity for the musician to regain complete creative control over his music if the performer did really start his own record label.
Should the video indeed pertain to his upcoming album, both music enthusiasts and business insiders will be able to ascertain his current record label or whether the speculation about him launching his own label is accurate.
One thing is for sure, though: the music industry is buzzing with anticipation and excitement over Rema’s enigmatic music video. Time will tell what the artist has in store for his fans.
