9 Spring 2024 Fashion Trends

Some of us with more of a sense of style are anticipating the major fashion trends of the upcoming season, while others are busy planning the perfect Valentine’s Day (or Galentine’s Day). The idea of all the greatest spring/summer fashion on the horizon should cheer us up during these unrelentingly chilly winds and wet mornings, am I right?

Layers have been enjoyable, yes, but dressing practically doesn’t often allow for much personal style or originality. Even if you’re dressed to the nines in your finest ensemble of the year, it won’t do much good if it’s hidden by the bulky winter coat you’ve been forced to wear every day for the past two months.

Because of this, we’re going to be spending the next several weeks (spoiler alert) wishing for an early spring and an especially stylish spring outfit.

When we can finally take off our winter jackets, what will we all be wearing? These are the main trends in fashion for the upcoming season to be aware of.

1. MASC/FEM DRESSING

There’s no doubting that towards the end of last year, skirts took the place of pants as the go-to item for everyday wear. However, although denim minis clearly ruled for AW23, it appears that the skirt is getting a hyper-feminine update for SS24. Think ultra-mini, ultra-sheer, flowing, or elegant; this skirt is a key component of the Masc/Fem Dressing aesthetic trend, which will be enormous come spring. Most importantly, a flirtatious vest or a charming cropped cardigan are no longer the go-to pieces to combine with these skirts. Consider bulky jackets, male sweaters, and big shirts instead. Perhaps even all three at times?

2. BUSINESS CASUAL

Why not take advantage of one of the greatest trends for spring a bit early this year, for those who are currently suffering with their officewear look? The SS24 workwear trend is really easy to understand: it’s all about easy tailoring, and we don’t simply mean a skirt that allows you to breathe. Using wildly enormous suits, blazers that reach your thighs, and perhaps even an elasticated waist on a Friday, this business casual looks really excessive. To experiment with proportions, wear it with a slender knit or top that fits tight.

3. SHEER WHITE

Since a few seasons ago, sheer materials have been a major trend in evening wear, never more so than on our favorite red carpet superstars. However, there will be a very specific way to wear the trend in 2024. Nothing is more stylish in the spring than a sheer white dress, whether you’re wearing it to dinner, the beach, or, of course, a red carpet event. It gives pure white a seductive edge. As a wedding guest, perhaps just stay away from it.

4. HIGH-RISE TROUSERS

For a few seasons now, low-slung waists have been the talk of trend reports. However, it’s time to bring back the high-rise, and I can almost hear the millennials among us exhaling in relief. If you follow the Loewe school of thought, only the ultra-high-rise will do. Ideal for many occasions such as work, dates, dinners, and outings, the high-rise rule may be included into your trouser collection regardless of whether you’re wearing jeans, sweatpants, or tailored pants. Invest on a classic belt to add flair to the ensemble.

5. ELEVATED SPORTSWEAR

The days of saving apparel for athletic events are long gone. As a possible afterglow from the pandemic’s daily loungewear restriction, sporting basics have been making a sluggish but steady comeback into our everyday wardrobes. This is especially true for spring 2024. Nowadays, hooded sweatshirts have supplanted casual day dresses in size; monochromatic zip-up track tops are the ideal accessory to match your favorite denim jacket; and cropped leggings, which are eerily reminiscent of 1960s pedal pushers, are a true look when paired with heeled pumps. Comfy attire? You don’t need to inform us once more.

6. COMING UP ROSES

Flowers… In the springtime… We are aware of your thoughts. But pay attention before you go all Miranda Priestly on us. Not just any old florals, either. Roses are the only flower in fashion. On their spring/summer runways, countless designers showcased the most conventionally romantic flower in the world, but Simone Rocha, as always, took it a step further by putting actual roses into many of her gorgeous, translucent garments. It’s up to you if you go that far, but if you’re feeling particularly floral this spring, make sure everything is very pink.

7. METALLICS

Even though Christmas and the party season have passed, there seems to be no need to store the clothes. Since gold and silver are expected to be among the biggest color trends of 2024, metallics will actually work well for you and your ensembles for months to come. Naturally, this style works best with evening wear, but there’s no reason not to try it out in the spring when designers like Miu Miu and Rabanne offer flawless dressed-down versions with creative layering.

8. MODERN BRIDE

Even though I’m past the bridal era myself (love and strength to those of you planning yours right now!), I’ll always be keeping at least one eye on the latest trends in bridal fashion. After all, for many of us, it’s the most enjoyable fashion moment of our lives. The most fashionable silhouettes for 2024 will include lowered waists, XXL hip padding, and enormous sleeves. Things are looking quite modern.

9. SHORT SHORTS

This last trend won’t come as a surprise to anyone who has followed the celebrity fashion scene even a little bit in the past few weeks. Since these looks debuted on the runway, micro shorts—you know, the ones that almost look like knickers—have been all the rage. Beyoncé and Kendall Jenner have been spotted testing out the trend among the street style set. Of course, because they expose about half of your body, they require a certain level of bravery in addition to warm weather to pull off. Like Alexander McQueen, you may cautiously dabble in the trend by wearing yours with thigh-high boots for an added layer of coverage.
