Whatever one wishes, habits pave the way.
According to Jack Canfield, who has spent over 20 years mentoring entrepreneurs and start-ups, the most successful people in the world did not arrive there by accident. Truly successful people, whether they are millionaires or have just found their true life purpose and get to enjoy living it every day, are in that position for a specific reason: their habits.
Habits are congenial aura that determines the outcomes of an individual. They’re inseparable yet they can be built to the standard of what one is seeking. Habits are like pathways to every door one wants to open. Whatever habits one keeps up with determine the outcome of one’s success or failure. One can work all day to become successful until one is completely burned out. But if specific daily habits of successful people are not developed, it’s unlikely success will find its way very close. Moreover, it has been proven that working all one’s ass to burn candles on both sides is not an effective way of smart work.
If one wishes for success, our habits must be tilted to the habits of a successful person. In this wise, the following are five key habits of successful people:
1. Successful People Believe in Themselves
Creating a successful life out of one’s dreams has never been so easy as emulating the habit of a believing person. This is because, “no one can make one’s inferior, without one’s consent,” as quoted by the Late Herbert Einstein. Becoming a successful person requires first the ability to believe one can become successful. Every successful person is driven by the ability to do. Successful people assume in favour of themselves and act as if achieving their goals is completely possible even when things are hard and are difficult to do. Successful people are like daredevils, they dare to succeed and yes, they become successful.
2. Successful People Set Goals
Experts on the science of success have revealed that the brain is a goal-setting organism. Successful people know that if they give a goal to their subconscious mind, it will work night and day to achieve it. They set high goals that are both realistic and measurable, and they make an effort to work towards those goals every day.
Goals setting aligns with the seven ultimate habits mentioned by the late Napoleon Hill in his book “Outwitting the Devil.” The ability to set goals is the only discrepancy that singles out a purposeful person from a person who lacks direction and purpose. Every successful person doesn’t decide anyhow. They make decisions based on their purpose, on their plans; and choose people to work with at their will.
3. They Go the Extra Mile
Successful people know that if they want to excel in business, school, and life, they have to go the extra mile. They give the people around them — their customers, team, and family — more than is expected and, in return, they’re handsomely rewarded with loyalty, referrals, opportunity, and money.
They don’t focus on the “What’s In It For Me” policy. They don’t put stock in whether something is fair or whether they’ll be compensated or recognized for more effort. Instead, they focus on exceeding expectations, paying extra attention to detail, and providing quality work above all else.
4. They Take Action
The world is full of daydreamers but successful people take action. They know that the world doesn’t pay someone for what they know; it pays for what they do. They make a point to create a vision, set goals, break them down into small steps, visualise and affirm their success, believe in themselves, and then get out there and go for it. They are keenly aware of the fact that nothing happens until they take action.
There’s no gainsaying that when an action is taken, one triggers all kinds of things that will inevitably catapult to success. One begins to learn things from own experiences that cannot be learned from listening to others or from reading books. And one begins to attract others who will support and offer encouragement.
5. They Practice Appreciation
Successful people know that when they show appreciation to the people in their lives — such as their employees, loved ones, or colleagues — they not only make those people feel better, but they feel better and more successful. This is one of the biggest factors in how people become successful.
The fact is, people are more likely to help achieve one’s goals if they believe that they appreciate their efforts. There is no downside to this. Appreciation costs nothing, and no one has ever complained about being over-appreciated.
