It is probably to promote his upcoming song that may ended up being a flπp, Daniel Regha says.
From ages, we know, or believed Wizkid, has an anodyne — unresponsive — nature that often makes him reticent to trolling on social media. Fans have frequently condemned that no matter the amount of trolls, Wizkid will not raise a finger to reply, nor care to comment.
Some fans believed Wizkid’s major reason is because he is too busy to give time to trolling and social media antics.
But, on Monday the Nigerian musician and songwriter, Ayodeji Balogun, popularly known as Wizkid, shocked both a group of fans and fellow afrobeats singers by replying to fans’ tweets on X and subtly scorning as many as he can.
For this, a fan who is excited about the hyperactivity of Wizkid asked if he would still be free some other time to be very active on X which the musician replied, next Monday would be the next available free time.
“After today, when you go dy active again?”
“Hmmm maybe next tmrw. I Dey free Monday again,” replied Wizkid.
But this was not the antics that sparked reactions and degenerated into a serious controversy on social media, resting on the lips of many. The hyperactivity of Wizkid, trolling fans and celebrities started with a reply to Don Jazzy’s Signee, Ladipoe post on Monday.
Ladipoe had posted a tweet hinting at a decline in the careers of Afro beats artists.
He wrote, “Nigerian rappers that survived ‘hip hop is dead’ watching Afrobeat artists go through their own.”
The tweet caught the attention of a concerned X user who then directed Wizkid’s attention to it. Wizkid, has always, was not expected to reply but he unexpectedly heaved his name off that Sphinx-like narratives, thereafter carving out for himself a new name of “once in a blue moon, troller.” His reply, since then, has generated heated arguments on social media.
The Grammy-winning Nigerian music star, in response to Ladipoe’s post, dismissed any possibility of engaging with artistes signed to ‘an influencer’ — a subtle jab at Don Jazzy, under whose label Ladipoe operates.
Wizkid’s tweet read, “lol never chatting to anyone signed to an influencer. Next.”
Maintaining the line of the activeness, Wizkid again used a controversial video of Davido’s apology as a replica of what he expects from fans to do for him before he would release his next song.
The conversation goes on like this:
@_demigadd “Sha release song.”
“Na by force,” Wizkid replied.
@patdafenet, another Wizkid fan wrote, “Yes na by force, biggest bird.”
“Beg me, like this. Send video,” Wizkid later wrote while posting the controversial video of Davido kneeling to apologize.
Commenting on this, there have been mixed reactions between Wizkid’s and Davido’s fans on social media, as critics too offer different points of views.
Although, Wizkid, may have done well replying to a derogatory troll, probably intending to lambast his age-long music career. As one of his fans noted, his reply showed the proof that he is a human, too. Joining Davido to the chain of the troll for probably fame or to unnecessarily stir up controversies, remains what is incomprehensible.
Contrasting to this, a list of Wizkid’s fans have said he is so mature for replying to Ladipoe and fans, while subtly trolling Davido. But, Daniel Regha, a popular social media critic, believed otherwise.
On his X profile, Regha, who is known for his surreal opinions on all topics said, the action of Wizkid is immature.
Reacting to his first post on Ladipoe, Regha called Wizkid a double standard person who collaborated with Tiwa Savage in 2017 yet, forgetting that now complaining that the owner of Savage’s label is an “influencer.”
In a separate tweet, he called out Wizkid to bring out whom he has promoted over the past years of his career unlike Olamide, Davido and Don Jazzy who promoted some artists that are now doing well in the industry.
“Wizkid is so mature,” fans said, but look at how ch!ldish he’s been acting. From d!srespecting fans to m¤cking Davido just to be in the spotlight. Using a video that caused a lot of controversy & was aimed to ru!n Davido’s marriage is beyond disgusting. And all for what? To promote an album or project that may end up being a fl¤p? A 33 yrs old ought to have some level of wisdom.
“Wizkid was once signed to E.M.E Records whose co-founder Banky W was, & is still a part-time influencer; He also forgets that he himself is an influencer which is why brands use his platform to advertise & promote their products. Ayra Starr got a Grammy nomination while signed to MAVINs, REMA is a global sensation while signed to the same label owned by Don Jazzy, but he needed the help of Beyonce as well as Drake (international artistes) to get a career breakthrough. He shouldn’t disrespect record labels or their artistes.
“-Don Jazzy helped flourish the careers of D’banj, Wande Coal, Tiwa Savage, Rema, Johnny Drille, Ladipoe, & many others.
-Olamide championed Adekunkle Gold, Lil Kesh, Asake, Fireboy, just to name a few.
-Davido is helping a few upcomers like Mayorkun
build up their career; Same with M.I who elevated artistes like Blaqbonez.
“But the question is, besides posting on IG stories, who has W!zkid made a success in the music industry?,” Daniel Regha questioned.
