The Warri Kingdom in Nigeria has commenced a seven-day celebration marking the fourth coronation anniversary of His Majesty Ògíamè Atuwatse III, the Olu of Warri.
The festivities opened with a thanksgiving service at the Palace Church in Aghofen, where members of the Iwere Nation gathered for prayers and songs of praise, celebrating what they describe as four years of prosperous leadership under the monarch’s reign.
The opening ceremony served as both a worship service and a collective prayer session, with attendees seeking continued wisdom, peace, and prosperity for the Warri Kingdom. The event highlighted the unity and strength that characterizes the Itsekiri people under their traditional ruler’s leadership.
The week-long program promises diverse activities including educational lectures, traditional homage ceremonies, and cultural exhibitions. Sons and daughters of the kingdom are expected to participate in honouring their monarch’s leadership achievements over the past four years.
Tomorrow, August, 20, schedule features the commissioning of a new hospital, an Itsekiri Language completion event, and novelty football matches for both men and women. The football events will notably feature some of Nigeria’s most prominent football legends, adding sporting excitement to the cultural celebrations.
The anniversary celebrations reflect the deep reverence the Itsekiri people hold for their traditional institution and their commitment to preserving their cultural heritage while marking milestones in their monarch’s reign.
