Netflix shelved Halle Berry's film - US media

The Mothership, a science fiction movie starring US Oscar winner Halle Berry, will not be available on Netflix, according to US media.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Netflix decided to shelve the movie because it needed extensive reshoots during the post-production phase.

The release had been scheduled for 2022, however co-producer Berry and her crew wrapped up filming in 2021.

Berry and Netflix have not yet made any statements in public.

Netflix revealed in February 2021 that “Oscar Winner Halle Berry to Star in The Mothership,” one of the next films.

“A sci-fi adventure that follows Sara Morse (Halle Berry) one year after her husband mysteriously vanished from their rural farm,” the movie’s description reads.

“When she discovers a strange, extra-terrestrial object underneath their home, Sara and her kids embark on a race to find their husband, father and most importantly – the truth,” the teaser for the movie read at the time.

Several US entertainment news publications quoted sources claiming that the streamer decided against moving forward with the film because to protracted post-production delays.

It would have been the first feature picture directed by British Oscar nominee Matthew Charman.

Berry has a multi-picture deal with Netflix; in 2020, she made her directorial debut on the service with the drama Bruised.

She also appears with Mark Wahlberg in the upcoming action movie The Union.

Netflix claimed earlier this week that a surge in new members occurred at the close of the previous year as a result of users being encouraged to create their own accounts by the company’s efforts to crack down on password sharing.

In the three months that concluded in December, the streaming provider added more than 13.1 million new subscribers.

That continued a trend of rise that began last year, and it was the highest for any quarter since 2020.

Netflix declared that it planned to hike rates and that it was confident in its growth trajectory.
