The singer, who goes by she/they, looked stunning in a highly structured strapless minidress in tones of gray, black, purple, and white that created the effect of reflection.

Monáe posted a picture of herself at the event on her Instagram Story, along with a smaller picture of a woman donning the identical outfit in a different hue. According to Monáe, the item was from designer Tony Ward’s spring-summer 2024 collection.

The website description of the customized and made-to-order dress said, “Into the radius of a statement mini black dress with a voluminous circular pattern of black and silver sequins embroideries innovatively stitched together on a tulle base to wrap the allure.”

The actor from Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery wore black open-toe heels with diamond-encrusted ankle straps.

They opted for stud earrings instead of a necklace, keeping their accessories basic. The “Yoga” singer donned a bold red lip and had her hair fashioned in a pixie cut.

She showed off a daring “liquid” style at the 2024 Grammy Awards in Los Angeles this past weekend.

On the red carpet, the multi-talented performer revealed to Laverne Cox of E! how her ensemble complemented the concept of her fourth studio album, The Age of Pleasure.

“I’m feeling futuristic, classic, and timeless. They exclaimed, “I’m standing in liquid blackness, full of joy, and black pride.” Joy was the main theme of this album. And I wanted my people to be happy this time around. Being nominated for album of the year makes me very delighted.

Monáe chose a strapless Giorgio Armani Privé dress with a plunging bustier adorned with silver beads and black sequins as a way to celebrate. Additionally, there were flower decorations composed of silver and black crystals around the design’s waistline.

The 2017 CFDA design Icon Award recipient, who is well-known for her black-and-white ensembles, is not afraid to discuss the personal impact of design.

They considered what the subject meant to them as a “full circle” moment before the 2023 Met Gala. The previous year’s Costume Institute event at the Metropolitan Museum of Art drew inspiration from “Karl Lagerfeld: A Line of Beauty.”

Monáe remembers that her most memorable experience was attending for the first time in 2011 with the luxury brand’s late creative director.

It makes a sort of full circle for us to be commemorating Karl because I traveled with him. About her outfit, which she promised would be “an experience,” she exclusively told PEOPLE, “I’m really excited about what we’ll do.”

The Hidden Figures actress showed out on the red carpet wearing a big, ornately embellished, black-and-white Thom Browne tweed tuxedo suit with mismatched patterns. Wearing a white leather quilted cat bag as an accessory, she paid homage to Lagerfeld’s cat model, Choupette.
