The singer and actress Jennifer Lopez is set to co-produce a film in which she plays the role of “Roberto” in a Puerto Rican adaptation of the children’s TV show Bob the Builder.
The announcement follows Mattel’s other popular figure, Barbie, who recently had a successful run at the box office.

With the slogan “Can we fix it?” Roberto/Bob become famous. The voice of “Yes, we can!” will be provided by Anthony Ramos, who is known for his role in Hamilton.
After “digging deeper into what it means to build,” Mattel claims the film will honor Latin American countries in the Caribbean.
The first of twelve seasons of Bob the Builder premiered on BBC One in 1999.
The animated construction worker, voiced by Neil Morrissey of Men Behaving Badly and Line of Duty, appeared on networks all around the world, including Nick Jr. and PBS Kids.
As of 2015, thanks to a Channel 5 revamp that incorporated CGI instead of stop-motion, Our Zoo actor Lee Ingleby provided the voice for Bob in the UK.
Everyone “works together to get the job done” in the program, including Bob, Wendy, and their pals.
As a co-producer, Ramos expressed his “proudness” in incorporating aspects of real life “inspired by my own.”
He stated that it was “a movie about friends working together, a celebration of a beautiful home they share, and how love can help to conquer any obstacle in your way” .
Toys reinvented in film
As a result of the financial and critical success of Barbie, played by Greta Gerwig, there are plans to bring many more children’s characters to the big screen, including Bob the Builder.
With two Golden Globe victories, eight nominations, and five Baftas, it was the highest-grossing film of 2023.
The upcoming toy film Polly Pocket, starring Lily Collins and directed by Lena Dunham, is one example. Allegedly “adult” and set to “lean into millennial angst,” Daniel Kaluuya’s Barney the Dinosaur is set to premiere in 2019.
Hot Wheels, directed by J.J. Abrams of Star Wars: The Force Awakens, is one of several upcoming Mattel features. Others include Matchbox, Masters of the Universe, Thomas & Friends, and Masters of the Universe.
